I am at a bridge in my life. This is a bridge I must cross, though it be long and bumpy. Once I start across, I cannot turn back or turn down another path. Rather, I must get to the other side. I am not alone on this bridge-crossing journey. My husband and three children (and three dogs) are with me. In our everyday lives, we cannot speak of this crossing yet (or hubby may lose his job!), and so, I need an outlet for my thoughts and hopefully, a little feedback and input from some of you.
We are moving from the southeastern United States to the Northwest. We are going to leave well-salaried employment to start our own law practice. We are leaving behind hot, steamy summers, and heading toward the Cascade mountains. This move is long overdue. I have felt stuck where I am for over ten years. Niether of us are originally from the southeast. Every time we have decided to leave, something has held us here. Even now, as we have saved money during these hard economic times with mortgages on two houses, we have just learned that we will have to pay thousands for ear and sinus surgeries for myself and my son before we can leave. (Glad we were saving, but really?) This adds a new hardship, but I have to stay focused. We have to make it all the way across that bridge!
If you don't know, attorneys have to be licensed in each state they practice law, and it is not so easy or quick to get admitted to a state's bar. We believe now we are about one month away from bar admittance to our new state. Yea! More on that later. For now, it is time to get packed up and get our house on the market to sell. Currently, we own two houses, though one is under contract. We have been paying two mortgages for almost two years now. Boy, did we have lousy timing!!
On the other side of the bridge we are settled into a new community with our own business. Three kids and three dogs are none the worse for wear.
Here are my six week goals:
1. Get rid of stuff we will not be moving with us.
2. Get packing.
3. Sell this house!
4. Lay the plans for new business startup.
5. Oh yeah, get the surgeries behind us!!
6. Keep my sanity in the process.
Feel free to offer encouragement at will.
